Morgan – Design Guild Mark for Kyoto

Design Guild Mark for Kyoto

Morgan is delighted to have been awarded a 2016 Design Guild Mark for their Japanese inspired Kyoto collection. Designed by Morgan Studio, Kyoto is a system of linear benches that interlock to create informal seating. It is fully upholstered and features timber, glass or marble table tops.

Set-up to reward excellence in the design of volume furniture production, the Design Guild Marks are awarded by a distinguished panel of judges from the fields of furniture, hospitality, commercial, retail and media. There were a record number of entries again this year which were assessed for excellence in design, the use of materials, manufacture and function.

Morgan Managing Director, Rodney McMahon, comments, “This is our seventh Design Guild Mark since they were introduced by The Furniture Makers’ Company in 2008. This one is particularly satisfying as it underlines our successful growth into the workplace sector, for which these benches are a great solution for receptions, presentation areas and adhoc meetings.”

Breathing Space in Minster Court with Morgan

Re-thinking the workplace is the specialism of Burtt-Jones & Brewer and a talent they have put to good use for the office re-location of a global insurance client. Based in Minster Court, London, the company had out-grown their office, so a move has not only allowed them to spread out but also introduce new spaces like a feature broker bar and staff breakouts.

A diverse selection of Morgan seating and tables have been specified which are in keeping with the design brief to create an interior with the style and finishes that feel more like an exclusive hotel.

It is becoming more commonplace for a workspace project to specify such a large range of Morgan original designs, along with many different fabrics and timber finishes. The sum of the parts is a superb interior that outshines the average office space and truly puts the needs and comfort of its staff at the fore.

Morgan launches RIO during LDF

Morgan_RIO_teaser image_web
British furniture maker, Morgan, is once again taking part in LDF (#LDF15) and the Clerkenwell Design Quarter with an exciting new seating collection, RIO, launching on 22nd September.

Designed by Morgan Studio and Mehran Gharleghi from Studio INTEGRATE,

RIO explores the relationship of the craft of yesterday with the craft of tomorrow. Is technology dictating the new aesthetic? Can tradition, innovation and comfort be combined?

These are the questions that inspired the new collection. A clearly expressed structure is varied offering tactile beautiful timber detail, minimal but comfortable upholstery or 3D printed bone-like intricate lattice framework.

Mehran Gharleghi has collaborated with Katerina McMahon and the Morgan Design team and developed a chair that uses technology to create a sophisticated luxurious product. He used his expertise in new technologies to develop a 3D printed component, made in both a polyamide and a metallic finished resin.

Constructed using a mathematical algorithm each set of chairs features a slight variation of the algorithm making it slightly different as if it were carved by hand.
